The venerable Norwegian manufacturer Stokke, now considered one of the world’s leading companies in children’s design, was founded in 1932 in Alesund, a small town on the west coast of Norway. In recent years, the vintage market has grown around mid-century Stokke pieces, which are rare. Until the late 20th century, Stokke continued to produce innovative Opvsik seating designs such as the Balans benches (1979\/84) to improve posture and the Garden Chair (1985) alongside other ergonomic designs such as Terje Ekstrom’s Chair (1984) and Per Oie’s Move Stoll (1984).
