The venerable Norwegian manufacturer Stokke, now considered one of the world's leading companies in children's design, was founded in 1932 in Alesund, a small town on the west coast of Norway. In recent years, the vintage market has grown around mid-century Stokke pieces, which are rare. Until the late 20th century, Stokke continued to produce innovative Opvsik seating designs such as the Balans benches (1979/84) to improve posture and the Garden Chair (1985) alongside other ergonomic designs such as Terje Ekstrom's Chair (1984) and Per Oie's Move Stoll (1984). Since 2006. Stokke has focused exclusively on high quality children's furniture and childcare products.
