“The Distortion of Bimba y Lola” is a stunning ink-on-paper artwork created by Betty Brownlee in 2024. The piece reflects the artist’s unique creative process, which begins with spontaneous portraits of people in their daily lives, captured through photographs. To transform these images, Betty uses technological elements and artificial intelligence, resulting in surprising distortions that are transferred to paper with layers of Chinese ink. The systematic grid visible in some areas of the painting honours the meticulous process and the fusion between traditional art and technological innovation. This painting is a testament to Betty’s ability to combine contemporary techniques with a deep appreciation for the figurative, creating a work that is both modern and timeless.
